Saturday, June 19th – Cleveland Council of Black Nurses presents “The Annual Mary C. Thompson Workshop & Scholarship Luncheon: ‘Mental Health in Minorities: Living Beyond the Diagnosis.” The keynote speaker for the event was Toni Johnson, MD (Department of Psychiatry, MetroHealth Medical Center).

A number of community leaders were in attendance including Councilman Zach Reed.

Fundraiser: Denzel to Europe

0_0_0_0_250_363_csupload_155544Young scholar, Denzel Gregory, was recently chosen because of his excellent academics to rep the USA as a student ambassador in six different countries in Europe this summer. Though this is an excellent opportunity, Denzel’s mom (a single mother of three) has to raise more than $7,000 for her son to take part in this chance of a lifetime.

Beech Street PR, Enya PR, The Unit Band and Bangs Salon will hold a fundraising effort for Denzel at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 21 at Allure, 75 Public Square. For just $10 you could help change a young scholars life.


Robin Thicke Concert

Robin Thicke presented a special evening of his soulful and sultry tunes at the House of Blues. His plus hour long set kept the packed crowd’s full attention, even demanding an encore performance at the night’s end.

Karen E Mumford Foundation Awards Dinner

The Karen E. Mumford Cancer Foundation held it’s inaugural awards dinner honoring the humanitarian efforts of NFL Buffalo Bills’ Donte Whitner, and Jose C. Feliciano, Partner at Baker and Hostetler LLP, for their achievements in giving back to the Greater Cleveland Community in the area of healthcare.

Award recipients received the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Humanitarian Award. The event was held at The Flying Fig.

A number of local community leaders were in attendance including Judge A. Deane Buchanan (Cleveland Heights Municipal Court), Dr. Edgar Jackson (University Hospitals), and Ohio State Senator Shirley A. Smith.

STJ Foundation Inaugural Celebration

The inaugural celebration of the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Foundation was recently held in Washington D.C. as part of the 39th Annual Legislative Conference of the Congressional Black Caucas at Oya Lounge.

A number of local politicians and entrepreneurs were on hand including Marc Barnes (Dream/Park), Representative Kendrick Meek (D-FL17), and Andre Showell (BET Networks).

The STJ Foundation thanks Cleveland Clinic, BET Networks, and University Hospitals for their support.
